Category: Speed feature - Available in Pro

Your images are served from the edge location nearest each visitor, so photo-heavy pages load fast everywhere, not just close to your server. Included with every ThumbPress Pro plan.

## One Server Can't Be Fast Everywhere

Here's what slows image delivery down when every request has to reach a single origin.

### Distance Adds Latency

Every visitor pulls your images from one server in one location. The farther away they are, the longer each image takes to arrive - and image-heavy pages feel the delay most.

Impact: Slower loads the farther visitors are

### Origin Under Load

When traffic spikes, your single origin serves every image request itself. Big media files pile onto your hosting and drag down the whole page.

Impact: 10-40 MB of images per uncached page

### Core Web Vitals Penalty

Slow image delivery hurts Largest Contentful Paint - one of the metrics Google scores your page speed on. Distant visitors quietly cost you rankings.

Impact: LCP drag on every distant visit

## How the Image CDN Works

Once released, delivery will move to the edge with no change to how you manage media.

### Steps

1. **Connect** — Turn on the CDN from your ThumbPress dashboard. No DNS surgery, no separate account to juggle.
2. **Distribute** — Your images are cached across a global edge network, so a copy sits close to every visitor.
3. **Serve** — Each visitor loads images from their nearest edge location, cutting latency and easing load on your origin.

### Deliver Images Faster Worldwide

Serve images closer to each visitor for quicker loading and a smoother experience across locations.

#### Global Edge Delivery

Your library is served from a worldwide edge network, so images arrive fast for visitors nearby and across the globe. This is the one ThumbPress feature where images intentionally leave your server.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Is the image CDN available now?

Yes. The Image CDN is live on every Pro plan starting September 1, 2026. Storage is included based on your plan tier; see the breakdown above.

### What is an image CDN and do I need one?

A CDN caches your images on servers around the world and serves each visitor from the nearest one. If you have a global audience or image-heavy pages, it will noticeably cut load times once available.

### Will my images leave my server?

Yes - and this is the only ThumbPress feature designed to do that. Every other tool runs entirely on your own server; the CDN is the deliberate exception, because global delivery requires edge copies.

### Will I have to change my DNS?

No. Turn it on from your ThumbPress dashboard, and it's live. No DNS changes needed.

### Will I need to re-upload my images?

No. The CDN sits in front of the media library you already have. Your existing images and their URLs stay exactly as they are.

### What happens if I go over my plan's CDN storage?

In that case, we suggest upgrading to a higher plan or contacting us for a custom storage solution.

### Will it cost extra on top of Pro?

No extra cost. CDN storage is included in every Pro plan, scaled to your plan tier. See the breakdown above.

### Can I use the CDN on the Free plan?

No. The Image CDN is a Pro feature. Upgrade to any Pro plan to turn it on.
