Compress Images
The Compress Images feature in ThumbPress allows you to optimize your media files by reducing their size while maintaining visual quality. This helps improve website speed and overall performance.
Accessing Compress Images
To begin, navigate to: WordPress Dashboard → ThumbPress → Compress Images

If no compression has been run yet, you will see a message like “No Scan Results Yet” along with options to configure the process.

At the top, you’ll find a Settings icon. From there, you can set default image compression for future uploads and enable single-image compression inside the media library. To know more details about it, please click here
Back to the bulk compression page, before starting compression, you can adjust the following settings:
Chunk Size
Enter a Chunk Size value (default: 50).
Note: This number refers to how many images are processed per request. Lower values are recommended for slower servers. (For Compress Now: 5-10, For Compress in Background: 15-20)
Compression Level
Controls how aggressively images are compressed.
- Example: 80
- Higher values mean stronger compression and smaller file sizes, but may slightly affect quality.
After setting the chunk size and compression level, you will find two options to run the process:
Compress Now
- Starts compression immediately
- Runs in real-time
- Best for smaller media libraries
Compress in Background
- Runs silently in the background
- You can continue working on your site
- Recommended for large image libraries
Once the process is complete, it displays a detailed summary of the compression process.
Statistics Overview
- Total – Total number of images selected
- Processed – Images that were scanned and processed
- Compressed – Images successfully optimized
- Remaining – Images left (usually 0 after completion)
- Space Saved – Total storage reduced (e.g., 506 KB)
You will also see a confirmation message like:
“Image Compression Complete – All images have been compressed successfully.”

To optimize newly uploaded images or re-run compression, please click the Compress Again button at the top right.
