ThumbPress crashes my site after activation/update. What should I do?
If ThumbPress causes your website to crash or shows a white screen after activation or an update, don’t panic, your website data and images are usually safe.
Here are the recommended steps to fix the issue:
1. Disable ThumbPress Temporarily
You can deactivate ThumbPress using:
- WordPress Plugins page (if accessible)
- FTP
- Hosting File Manager
Rename the plugin folder: /wp-content/plugins/thumbpress
For example: thumbpress-disabled
This will automatically deactivate the plugin and restore access to your website in most cases.
2. Clear Cache
After deactivating:
- Clear your website cache
- Clear server/VPS cache
- Clear CDN cache (Cloudflare, BunnyCDN, etc.)
- Clear browser cache
3. Check Plugin or Theme Conflicts
Sometimes another plugin or theme may conflict with ThumbPress. Try:
- Switching temporarily to a default WordPress theme
- Disabling other optimization/cache plugins
- Reactivating ThumbPress again
4. Increase PHP Memory Limit
Large media libraries and image processing may require more server resources. Recommended:
- PHP 8.1 or higher
- Minimum 256MB PHP memory limit
5. Reinstall the Latest Version
Delete the current ThumbPress plugin files and install the latest version again from your account dashboard.
6. Contact Support
If the issue continues, contact the ThumbPress support team with:
- Error message or screenshot
- WordPress version
- PHP version
- Hosting provider
- Steps to reproduce the issue
This helps the team identify and resolve the problem much faster.
