The Convert to AVIF feature in ThumbPress allows you to convert your existing images into the modern AVIF format for better compression and improved website performance. AVIF images are significantly smaller in size compared to traditional formats while maintaining high visual quality.

This tool scans your media library for supported image formats and converts them into AVIF based on your selected settings. It helps reduce storage usage and improves page load speed.

Accessing AVIF Conversion

To begin converting images into AVIF, please navigate to

WordPress Dashboard → ThumbPress → Convert to AVIF

If you see “No Scan Results Yet,” it means you need to start the scan process first.

Before starting conversion, you can adjust the following settings:

Supported File Formats

You can convert JPEG, JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, and WebP image formats to AVIF. Select the formats you want to include before starting the conversion.

Chunk Size

  • The Chunk Size determines how many images are processed at once.
  • The default chunk size has been kept at 50. You can adjust this based on your server performance.

Tip: We recommend keeping low chunk size values. For Detect Now: 5-10, For Detect in Background: 15-20)

  • Runs in the current session.
  • Best for smaller image libraries.

Convert In Background

  • Runs the conversion process in the background.
  • Allows you to continue working without interruption.
  • Recommended for large media libraries.

Once the process is complete it displays a detailed summary
